Moderate comedy success came last Thursday night, won the Underground Comedy Club’s monthly contest. Thanks to everyone else who performed and huge thanks to Gary Lynch who runs a tight ship every Thursday night underneath Thomas Reeds. Hugs to the mix of Kilkenny and Dublin based supporters who came along and laughed and only shouted a few things out.

The the prized “Greg Marks Perpetual (soon to be Memorial) Trophy” or broken stool (broken by a drama student who shall remain anonymous) rests proudly at home until next month when I return to defend it… or so I’m told. Hurra!

Shakespeare in Bits

This coming friday Devious Theatre’s “Shakespeare in Bits” returns for 4 runs over the back holiday weekend as part of The Rockfall Festival so it’s all for charity. I’ve wanted to do this show for over three years now and it’s great to finally see the whole thing come together. There’s plenty to read about over on The Devious Theatre Company’s website. Including an interview with me with John and Eddie soon to come.

The play features myself, John Doran and Eddie Murphy try to bomb our way through several of Shakespeare’s plays from the well known plays to the lesser known (or in some circles “shit”) plays and even a sonnet or two. We’ll open the show with a bit of “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” style improv from the three of us, something I’m rather nervous about but fingers crossed it’ll be just a little funny.

Tickets are 8 Euro and will be available shortly from Cleere’s Theatre on 056 – 7762573. The show opens on Friday October 23rd for three nights only. There will also be a matinee performance of the show on Sunday October 25th at 4pm. This performance will be at a reduced rate of 5 Euro. Also it’s on in Cleere’s so if you’re not enjoying it you can always drink yourself into believing we’re hilarious.

Ever been strutting yourstuff down the streets of kilkenny only to find your surrounding space marred by less attractive people? Are you sick of your style being cramped by the homeless, the poor, children and the poorly dressed? Afterall Ladies should be loving  your rock hard abs, flowing hair and well groomed mustache and not be distracted by such inferior emotions like pity and good will.

Have no fear for Natalie Blaise and her fine Detective Agency of Men’s Men known as “The Pinkertons” are currently sweeping through this town and cleaning up the filth. Natalie realises that woman cannot control their emotions and understands that these distractions must simply be removed via force not “charity”. At last we men can gloat about our massive stockpiles of cash without the Ladies so called “sorrow for the less fortunate” getting in the way.

However recently a small group of so called detectives have been fighting a campaign against Natalie and her fine crusade. These Vultures and their teenage gang will not accept that their time has come and it is up to us Men to show them what for!

Next time you’re out on the street and spot a Vulture make sure to quip about it’s low quality clothing, it’s badly groomed facial hair and of course it’s shockingly awful dress sense. Should it respond in an aggressive manner simply use your fists against it, The Pinkertons will sort out any legal ramifications and might even offer you a contract. Unable to use your fists in a convincing manner? No problem, simple challenge the Vulture to a dual, a battle of the mind or use your money to hire a Pinkerton’s fist.

The entire thing was made in less than a day, effects and all, it’s become the most viewed film type thing I’ve ever worked on (bar De-Rez but doesn’t really count) and has more than three times the view count of “Dinner Party!” Which is both great and really shit at the smae time.

Myself and John Doran’s short film “Dinner Party!” is being screened at the Kingston Hotel Dun Laoghaire as part of the first Underground Cinema Screening this Thursday.

Underground Cinema is a monthly cable access program in Dun Laoghaire. The program showcases on the big screen short films and interviews with filmmakers. Due to decreasing funds for the arts, this showcase is needed to support short filmmakers and keep this medium alive. Underground Cinema provides this need by showing these works to an audience who would normally not have access to such films.

Things kick off at 7 and should be done by 10 so if you’re in the area please come by, John and I will be there and we’ll need hugs.
